FROM THE HEAD OF SCHOOL

Hawley Hoggard
Thank you for your interest in Keystone Montessori School. I am delighted that you are searching for an excellent Montessori school for your child. Keystone has been awarded full recognition by the Association Montessori Internationale (AMI), the only Montessori teacher training association that Dr. Maria Montessori established. This certificate of recognition indicates that our Montessori practices are authentic and meet or surpass the highest standards.
Keystone was founded in 2013 with three main tenets in mind. First, a school should be a joyful, creative, and productive environment that is inspiring for everyone involved-children, parents, and staff. There should be a lively feeling of happiness, imagination, and industriousness that permeates the school environment. Second, authentic high-quality Montessori education should be accessible to more families. Access to the Montessori approach should not be dependent upon a family’s income. And our final priority is to always operate with the best interests of the children in mind.
Over 30 years ago I visited a Montessori classroom for the first time. I was searching for a school for our older son and I knew virtually nothing about Montessori at the time. A relative suggested I look into it. It seemed like a rather odd concept, but I was curious. I wasn’t in the classroom for very long before I was struck by the peaceful variety of activities, including a 5-year-old girl writing beautiful cursive letters and a tiny 3-year-old energetically washing a table. So many children working so joyfully and with such concentration! All the while the teacher was barely heard. I had never seen anything like it. It was in every sense a life changing experience.
I hope that you will make time to come and visit our school. With Google and YouTube, it is easy enough to research the Montessori approach, but it can’t, however, compare to observing a classroom firsthand, seeing the children at work, listening to their conversations, and watching the various interactions between the children and the adults. A Montessori classroom is a vibrant environment and definitely worthy of a personal visit. Call us and make an appointment to observe one of our classes, and you too may find it life changing.
Please feel free to contact me with any questions you might have. I am always happy to discuss the Montessori approach, and eager to help parents discover why this logical form of education has worked well for over a century.
I look forward to meeting you soon!
